Halaal Meat Policy

This is written for the benefit of Customers / Consumers who may be unsure of the rules of Islamic Slaughter and for anyone who may have any concerns.We at Eastern Catering use only Halaal meat for preparation of our ready meals and associated products. No other meat enters our premises.Our Production Manager administers the Halaal traceability system.Our Production Manager carries all inspection of meat supplier’s premises and operating methods. Every effort is made to verify information about suppliers from all relevant registered bodies or individual organisations.
We do not buy from anyone who has not been inspected or approved.


Definition of Halaal

The word 'Halaal' literally means permissible - and in translation it is usually used as lawful according to Muslim Shariah Law.
Opposite to Halaal is Haram, which means unlawful or forbidden.


What is Halaal
All our meals are prepared according to Islamic food laws in a factory which uses only Halal meat purchased from recognized Halal butchers /suppliers.

What is haram, forbidden or unlawful to consume. These are:
  • Pork or its derivatives.
  • Alcohol and intoxicants.
  • Meat and poultry which has not been slaughtered according to the Islamic rituals - the Zibah method.
  • Blood and carrion.
  • Animals which can live both in water and on land, like frogs.
  • Sea animals which can be vicious or are mammalians, for example, sharks or blue whale.
  • Carnivorous animals, like cheetah, lions, dogs and birds of prey, such as eagles, vultures, ospreys and the like.

What it Means to be a Halaal and Vegetarian Manufacturer

All meals manufactured at Eastern Catering premises, either individual or multi-portion foods, are specifically produced using strict Halal and Vegetarian guidelines guaranteeing that each meal is suitable for Muslim or other Vegetarian and Vegan consumers. We DO NOT use animal fat or any meat derived products in any of our vegetarian recipes.


Halaal Authenticity

Eastern Catering is officially approved by The Association of Islamic Charitable Projects to produce and supply Halal food within the United Kingdom.

The AICP is a non-profit making organisation that has been operating for over 30 years, one of its roles is to monitor and regulate red meat and poultry in the UK.

The AICP licenses slaughterhouses, distribution centres, retailers and providers of meat and poultry for human consumption. These licenses are granted on an annual and contractual basis. The AICP inspectors are there to audit and monitor compliance of both Islamic laws and MAFF and EC regulations of slaughter.

As a company, we take the issue of providing authentic Halal meals very seriously and see this as a key way of reinforcing this to our customers
